Reading the pulse, an introduction to Chinese pulse diagnosis
An intensive one day workshop on Sunday 30th September 2018
Reading and understanding the pulse has been one of the ‘Pillars’ of Chinese diagnosis forcenturies. Pulse diagnosis is one of the more important methods used in Chinese medicineandby ‘listening to the pulse we are able to gain a deep understanding about the current physical and mental health of a client. Although difficult to master, even at a basic level the pulse provides immediate and specific information which can inform your diagnosis.
This workshop aims to introduce the basic concepts of pulse diagnosis and is suitable for Shiatsu Practitioners and students and Complementary Health Practitioners with some knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
This is a very practical and experiential workshop where we will explore pulses and explain what we find. You will learn a simple system for recording and understanding what you find and how to relate this to your client and their presenting symptoms.
The group will be small in number so that personal attention can be given to each student.
The six principal positions according to the modern system of TCM
The four basics:- Speed, Regularity, Force and Depth
The normal pulse
Identifying some of the common qualities of the pulse
Identifying further quality types:- length, width, flow
The floating and deep pulse
Considering some of the Complementary positions
Shiatsu Practitioners and Students and Complementary Health Practitioners with a knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory.
Course Leader – Andrew Parfitt
Andrew has been in practice as an Acupuncturist and Complementary Health Practitioner since 1998. He studied acupuncture at the College of Chinese Medicine in Reading and with the European Shiatsu School and now runs the School of Five Element Shiatsu
